Enveritas claims are built on a core foundation of traceability, sustainability assessment, and responsible business practices.
To be awarded a Responsibly Sourced per Enveritas Standards claim, a company must provide verified purchase records that allow us to trace supply to its origin and assess sustainability conditions at the farm level. Where farms are at risk of failing to meet standards, companies are required to take action through ongoing improvement efforts.
Additional claims are available for companies that go further by meeting enhanced traceability requirements, actively addressing critical social and environmental issues in their supply chains, and, at the highest level, supporting regenerative agricultural practices that improve long-term farm and ecosystem health.
Compare claim requirements
Each claim builds on the requirements before it: Responsible Sourcing establishes the baseline, Enveritas Green adds enhanced claim requirements, Regenerative Agriculture adds regenerative criteria.

Five steps to your claim
Certification is delivered by the Enveritas Certification Body in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065 — the international standard for bodies certifying products, processes, and services.
From application to ongoing surveillance, certification is delivered through five independent stages.
-
01 Application
01 Application
Agreed scope and certification agreement
The applicant submits information on sourcing volumes, supply chain structure, facilities, and continuous improvement activities. The Certification Body reviews the application to confirm scope, identify conflicts of interest, and ensure it has the competence and capacity to proceed.
-
02 Evaluation
02 Evaluation
Evaluation findings against the standards
Conducted in two phases. Farm inspections are carried out in the applicant's sourcing regions through random sampling of a defined Supply Unit or through sampling of a Known Supply Chain. Facilities, documentation, supplier engagement, and farmer support are then assessed against the Certification Standards.
-
03 Review
03 Review
Independently reviewed certification file
Evaluation results are reviewed by personnel who were not involved in the inspection or audit work. The complete file is then considered by the Certification Committee, ensuring independence at every stage of the process.
-
04 Decision
04 Decision
Certification outcome and claims eligibility
The certification decision is made by the Enveritas Certification Body and is never delegated or subcontracted. Certified clients receive a Claims Certificate and Summary Report, and may make verified public claims in line with the Certificate and Marks Usage Policy.
-
05 Surveillance
05 Surveillance
Continued oversight and updated scope where needed
Certification is reassessed on an annual or biannual basis. Certificate holders must notify the Certification Body of any changes that may affect certification, including changes to sourcing geographies, supplier base, facilities, or ownership.
Responsibly Sourced
To make a Responsibly Sourced claim, a company must meet all four of the following requirements:
1. Traceability
Purchase mapping is the essential bridge between supply chains and the sustainability data we collect. Companies must submit purchase records for a defined twelve-month period, and we work with companies and suppliers to verify the geographic origin of every purchase. All purchases must be verified and traceable to origin at the country, community, or farm level.
2. Sustainability assessment
Enveritas conducts independent farm assessments in the regions where the coffee or cocoa was produced. These assessments measure performance against the Enveritas Sustainability Standards. If any Critical Requirements are not fully met, those gaps must be addressed through Continuous Improvement.
3. Continuous Improvement
Continuous Improvement is a required component of responsible sourcing with Enveritas. It ensures that sustainability verification leads to action, not just reporting.
Enveritas verifies Continuous Improvement through four complementary elements:
Supplier engagement: Companies share verified sustainability results with suppliers, creating a shared understanding of risks and priorities for improvement.
Collaborative Initiatives: Companies participate in multi-stakeholder initiatives, such as working with industry peers, governments, and civil society to address systemic challenges.
Progress transparency: Companies set public goals and report on progress over time, demonstrating accountability and long-term commitment.
Farm support: Companies fund or implement projects that directly support farmers, workers, or communities in regions where sustainability risks have been identified.
Together, these elements ensure that improvement activities are credible, targeted, and proportionate to the risks identified in a company’s sourcing regions.
4. Facilities and documentation
The company must undergo an evaluation of relevant facilities, systems, and documentation in accordance with the Certification Standards.
Enveritas Green
Enveritas Green is for companies that already meets all Responsibly Sourced requirements and wants to demonstrate stronger performance in high-priority risk areas. It is not a standalone claim.
Eligibility: Must first qualify for Enveritas Responsibly Sourced.
What it adds: More specific traceability depth and targeted farmer support in regions with elevated risk on critical practices.
Key requirement: Traceability to communities; where risk exists for child labor, forced labor, deforestation, and/or banned pesticide usage, farmer support programs in that region must include actions addressing those topics; time-bound improvement plans for non-critical practices.
Verification: Reviewed through the regular annual Enveritas verification cycle.
Failure handling: If base-scheme or critical safeguards are not maintained, add-on claim eligibility can be suspended.
Regenerative Agriculture
Enveritas Regenerative is for companies that already meets all Responsibly Sourced requirements and seeks verified regenerative progress over time. It is not a standalone claim.
Eligibility: Must first qualify for Enveritas Responsibly Sourced.
What it adds: A dedicated regenerative pillar measured across soil health, water conservation, biodiversity, and renovation.
Key requirements: 90% of volumes must be Fully Traceable to farmer groups; minimum 50% baseline across pillars; target to reach 70% Responsibly Sourced and 70% Regenerative within 5 years; at least 50% of farmers receive annual support.
Verification: Certified and reviewed annually at farmer group level through in-field audits and verification of support programs.
Failure handling: Critical requirement failures require immediate prioritized remediation and may affect add-on claim status.
